Biography: Henry S. Harrison

Henry S. Harrison is a nationally recognized real estate educator and author who has lectured throughout the country on real estate appraising. He is also the publisher of Real Estate Valuation Magazine.

Mr. Harrison earned the MAI and RM designations from the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the SRPA designation of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers; ASA - American Society of Appraisers; IFAS - National Assoc. of Independent Fee Appraisers; and CSA - Columbia Society of Appraisers.

He served on the national faculties of both the AIREA and the SREA and has been a leading real estate appraisal educator for over 40 years. He also served as the National Public Relations Chairman of the AIREA, twice receiving their Professional Recognition Award, and is now a Life Member of the Appraisal Institute.

In 1993,Mr. Harrison received the prestigious Distinguished R.E. Instructor (DREI)

designation from the Real Estate Educators Assoc.

Mr. Harrison was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1930. He graduated from

Hopkins Grammar School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received his Masterıs Degree in Adult Education/Real Estate Appraising from Goddard

College in Vermont.

A retired Air Force Major, he served during the Korean

War.

Mr. Harrison is past President of the Connecticut chapters of both the AIREA and SREA and past Vice-Governor of the SREAıs New England region. He is past President of the Greater New Haven Association of Realtors where he was named Realtor of the Year in 1976. In 1992, he received their Educator of the Year award. Mr. Harrison was President of ABC-Americaıs Home Buying Consultants, Inc. and The Harrison Appraisal Company for many years. He is

President of the New Haven Realtors Scholarship Foundation and past President of the Greater New Haven Arts Council.

Mr. Harrison lives at the edge of Yaleıs campus in downtown New Haven with his wife, Ruth Lambert, in a 1910 Carriage House which they have converted into a one family home with a greenhouse on the roof. Together, they owned forms & worms inc., a real estate appraisal supply company, for over twenty years.

He has four children: Julie Harrison (39), is a graduate of Brown University and Yale University Law School where she majored in environmental Law. She lives in Brevard County, FL where she is active on various civic boards. She is married to Dr. Stephen Watts, an electrophysiologist, and has two daughters, Nina (10), and Ruby Rose (7). Eve Harrison (36), is a graduate of Brown University and Columbia University Graduate School, and is a psychiatric social worker. She is married to Dr. Marc Rosen, a psychiatrist, and has 2 sons: Joseph, age 6, and, Zev, age 3. Kate Lambert Harrison (24), graduated from Hopkins, and Vassar College and is currently working as an envirnomental educator in California , as well as teaching for Kaplan Test Preparation Service. His youngest child, H Alex Lambert Harrison (19), also graduated from

Hopkins, and is a member of the class of 2006 at Sarah Lawrence College in New York State, where he plans to major in photography.

Mr. Harrison contributed to the formation of the Russian Society of Appraisers, writing their first appraisal text and training Russians to teach appraisal courses for the RSA. In his leisure time, he enjoys writing, reading, tennis, traveling, surfing the Internet, and sailing.

He and his wife summer in their Victorian-era cottage on Clam Island, in Long Island Sound, off the coast of Branford, Connecticut.
